How To Make A Website That Converts - Clients To Clicks
So you’ve got great products or services - now you want to set up a website to fully maximise sales. But how do you actually go about it? How do you craft a site that ensures conversions for those who might seek it out or stumble upon it? Here, we provide a three-step process for crafting a website that converts
Step 1: Know Your Audience
Being a business owner in the digital age means competing in a global marketplace. As soon as you launch your website, you’re putting it out there alongside hundreds - possibly even thousands - of other websites which will claim to offer similar products and services as you.
So how do you actually go about bringing the right users to your website in order to convert them into customers?
The trick is knowing your audience in the first place. If you’ve researched your target audience well, you can then start asking pertinent questions, such as: “What are the needs of my audience?” and “How can I provide for their needs?” You might even go further with supplementary questions such as: “Should I include blogs, images, videos, or additional information on my website to assure my target audience that I have the expertise to help with their needs?”
Understanding your audience is the cornerstone for crafting a website that converts, rather than a website which simply generates traffic. (Remember, when it comes to having a business website hoping to convert, generating traffic isn’t half as important as reaching your target audience - as users from your target audience will usually be the ones who go on to purchase from you.)
Step 2: Offer A Flawless User Experience on Your Website
Frequently, you hear business owners complaining that their website looks good, but they’re still failing to get conversions.
The reason is often the same: a business website might look well aesthetically, but user experience isn’t prioritised.
Business owners should want their websites to guide the user in the clearest way possible. Everything should look professional while also being straightforward to use. That means slick, high-quality visuals and plenty of information - but also fast loading times. That means adaptable, mobile-friendly webpages - but also webpages which are simple to navigate.
On top of this, websites which are hoping to convert should be informative, but not pushy. Users don’t want multiple pop-ups trying to trick them into buying a product - but they do want to be informed about where they can purchase an item they like the look of. You can inform them via call-to-actions such as ‘Click here to buy now’. (We’ll cover this further in Step 3).
Step 3: Use Call-To-Actions and Make It Easy For Users to Purchase Your Products and Services
One mistake which more timid business owners make when setting up a website is believing that most users need to be oversold on a website.
In fact, the exact opposite is normally true. If your target audience is on your website, most of the time they’ll need little convincing for a conversion - they’ll just need some direction.
Make sure to use plenty of call-to-actions - and make the purchasing section as seamless as possible for users. With that in mind, CTAs like: ‘Sign up for our newsletter’, ‘Buy now’, ‘Add to Cart’, ‘Go Straight to Checkout’, and ‘Save payment details for faster purchases in future’ should all be used where possible.
Keep in mind that most users will expect to see these CTAs and fast purchasing options throughout your website. Having them in prominent positions will help ensure conversions.
If you offer quality products and services, all it takes is some careful consideration of your website, and you can find yourself converting users into customers in no time!
